This book brings together realistic, start-to-finish guidance for implementing an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution in today's Data Centers. It introduces to cloud "newcomers" essential cloud concepts and building blocks, offering experienced practitioner 'know how' in designing and provisioning an IaaS platform. Drawing on extensive experience of delivering successful Public/Private Cloud solutions and working with leading cloud software vendors and integrators, the authors present comprehensive practical resources that assist the CTO, Architect or Engineer to interpret what real time I.T. services means to their business and what is required to make it happen. The authors offer best practices for defining I.T. services, automating and managing these services throughout their lifetime and building the operational and technical models needed to support essential cloud characteristics such as self service and service elasticity. The book's coverage includes: * Public, private, and hybrid clouds and their components * classifying and defining what an IT service is * Delivering cloud infrastructure services, from self-service customer requests to dynamic provisioning * Tracking, maintaining, and automating cloud network and compute resources * Managing server virtualization * User portals, service catalogs and customer self care * Service monitoring, billing, and chargeback. The book also explains how an IaaS platform can act as a foundation for other cloud delivery models such as Software as a Service (SaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
This book brings together realistic, start-to-finish guidance for implementing cloud solution architectures in virtualized data centers. It introduces cloud "newcomers" to essential cloud concepts, and offers experienced operations professionals detailed information for setting up and provisioning Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS). Drawing on extensive experience working with leading cloud software vendors and integrators, the authors present comprehensive practical resources - including detailed operations workflow examples. They offer best practices for managing cloud-based network, compute, and storage infrastructure, including a fully-tested management reference architecture. Coverage includes: * Public, private, and hybrid clouds and their components * Virtualization and cloud benefits and ROI analysis * Delivering cloud infrastructure services: from self-service customer requests to dynamic provisioning * Load balancing, firewalling, disaster recovery, and content delivery * Tracking, maintaining, and automating cloud network and compute resources * Managing server virtualization * Storage and I/O convergence in the data center * User portals, service catalogs, and customer self care * Service monitoring, billing, chargeback, and much more
